Full Description

Each equilateral triangle that distorts the original image is the representation of the IP address of a device that caused a 404 on the website that contains the image. The period taken into account varies randomly between 1 and 360 days for each update of the generated image. Each triangle is positioned relative to the IP address, its color depends on its position.

This work is based on a simple instruction that involve a geometric composition: "Instruction 19 : Populate the picture with equilateral triangles". This instruction is carried out in the form of a digital photograph modified by an online software. This softwares uses available data: IP addresses of devices that connected to the website containing the picture.

The set of generated pictures constitutes a visual research on the existence of margins of freedom and action within a defined framework of rules and constraints. While in the extension of conceptual practices like those from Sol LeWitt, Claude Rutault, or algorithmic visual games from Fran├žois Morellet, the various embodiments are an exploration of possible contexts allowing the existence of a contemporary art practice, mixing analog and digital, included in some banality of an everyday life that is not devoid of poetry.
