The ArtBoom (1999)

Initiated in 1999, the ArtBoom is an ongoing performance work, acknowledged as one of the first social networks on the Web. It displays the art network that artist Yucef Merhi has been doing since he started to exhibit in galleries and museums.

Full Description

This project embodies a dynamic genealogical tree where every person has been classified by its profession and connected depending on how was introduced to Merhi. One  interesting feature of the ArtBoom is that all the displayed pictures were taken with a wristwatch-camera prototype.   Besides of its practical value as a social network, the ArtBoom is an Internet Art project, a database, a performance, and a tracking device. It is also an archive of the creative people of our time, of the known and unknown cultural producers that are making and shaping our Contemporary Art history. But, above all, it is a networked portrait of every single person that has been added to the ArtBoom.
