EVENT

Strata, personal exhibition by Sérgio Costa opens in Lisbon

Dates:
Thu May 15, 2014 19:00 - Wed Jun 04, 2014

Location:
Lisbon, Portugal

SÉRGIO COSTA | Strata
Opening: May 15 at 7pm
On view through June 4, 2014

Carlos Carvalho Arte Contemporânea presents Strata, a solo show by Sérgio Costa, following the 8th edition of the Arte Laguna Prize.
The exhibition stems from the collaboration between Arte Laguna Prize and Carlos Carvalho Gallery, which selected Sérgio Costa as the winner of the special prize "Artist in Gallery".

With the 8th edition Arte Laguna Prize inaugurates Artist in Gallery: 4 prestigious international galleries have the opportunity to view a wide variety of artworks selected by a jury composed of ten experts of contemporary art. The first of the 4 exhibitions in the program is the one with Carlos Carvalho Arte Contemporânea in Lisbon, enriched by a catalog published by Musaeum.

"Strata" is a term used to describe the composition and properties of subsoil matter, by considering elements such as color and texture, which is similar to the analysis of the artwork. This relationship of this series of works with stratigraphy aims to show how art is a means of mapping knowledge about the world: artworks are cultural traces condensed in layers that allow us to learn about the past.
