Amanda Gutierrez born in Mexico City in 1978.
Lives and works in Chicago. Illinois
She received her BFA at ENAT (National School of Theater) in Mexico City, and completed her MFA in performance at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as recipient of the Trustee Scholarship.
Her work is based on the analysis of the media and performance projects, in which sound art is present as the fundamental element. It was from this experience that she came to understand the processed on real time on sound and video. She acquired different arts residencies within media art institutions such as the Multimedia Center at Mexico City, ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) in Germany, and Video Machete in Chicago, acquiring her first experiences teaching and producing video documentaries, in collaborative process with teens. She has been working with media performance projects in which sound art is present as the fundamental element. By becoming acquainted with the use of video, audio and lightning software to hardware her work was able to get in touch with the acoustic characteristics of space.
In 2006 started the series “A brief History of fictions”, presenting the first performance at The Art Society Gallery, with the project “Tracking Memory”, the video resulting of this process was presented at Miami Pool art fair 06. The second project of this series called En Memoria was developed at 2007. The series were presented in different art venues such as: Chicago Culture Center, “Site Unseen Performance Festival”, solo exhibition at Gallery G2, r4wb1t5 MX micro fest in Mexico City. In March 2008 she finished the arts residency Incubate at the Chicago Cultural Center, developing: The coming out stage, performance exhibited as part of the In>Time performance series and the received the grant Community Arts Assistance Program 2008 (CAAP). The project and its documents will be presented at the Centro Multimedia in Mexico City as part of the round table and art exhibition: La perfecta exterioridad.
