After having formed izdatso as a gathering of musicians and visual artists in 1999, Bernie Swell (aka b.w-s) has slowly but surely moved to a more minimal approach towards digital composing.
Painters like Rauschenberg, Rothko or Kuroda, and japanese architect Tadao Ando can be cited as major influences along with Steve Reich, Eric Satie & Alva Noto.

edith progue // timeline is the latest project by b.w-s.consisting of a chronological report of the different moods experienced by the composer over a 24 hours period of time spent in an appartment overlooking the dark waters of Canal St Martin in Paris.
The dreamy environment created by the melodic sound of an acoustic piano is only troubled by the intrusion of a few micro-electronic beats & sounds.
The softness of the instrument can be compared to the white walls of an art gallery that would feature basic technological sounds as art objects.
The music was created as an attempt to reconcile the noisy environment that surrounds othe day-to-day modern urban life with the inner peace that can eventually be found through meditation.

Next step is silence…


The album is released on Berlin’s legendary minimal house label Mille Plateaux

Das Projekt Edith Progue konstruiert ganz ahnliche Soundscapes wie Alva Noto und Ryuichi Sakamoto. Wahrend letztere allerdings superslower Ambient nahe an der Klangkunst sind, ist der Franzose Bernie Swell in Form von Edith Progue schon etwas hektischer. Wir befinden uns allerdings immer noch im grosen Land pianoesker Stille, damit wir uns nicht falsch verstehen. "Mille Plateaux" lebt wieder, das Coverdesign ist schlicht geblieben. Das Sound-Design verharrt ebenfalls im erfreulich Reduzierten. Die Songtitel geben ubrigens die Rezeptions-Empfehlung in Form der jeweiligen Uhrzeit an. Sollte man eins zu eins ausprobieren, hore das dunkle "12 P.M.". Edith Progue als Selbst-Experiment. Toll.
