Jan Kather teaches photography and video art at Elmira College, Elmira, NY. She is the recipient of several artist grants, including the Billboards ~ Just Down the Road project of the Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes (2002) and three NYSCA Decentralization Artists Crossroads Program Grants: one used to create an artists’ book, Honoring Your Love, Honoring Your Grief, in collaboration with writer Chris Lloyd (2004); the second to produce a community art installation titled Aleatoric Video (2007) and the third "An Intimate View," a photo project about the Southern Tier, exhibited in unusual places (2011). She also wrote and received a grant for a collaborative video project titled "Meeting in the Middle" at the Arnot Art Museum, inviting Danish artist Michael Chang and Berkeley artist Marty McCutcheon to reconfigure their "Fragments" project originally created for Berkeley Commonplace in 2009. She is an active member of the experimental artist space, Rural Research Laboratories (Elmira), and the artist cooperative State of the Art Gallery (Ithaca).
