Julie Lapalme was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and is based in Montreal. She holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MA from Concordia University (Littératures francophones et resonances médiatiques). Her work is generally Web-based with a multidisciplinary approach, merging writing, sculpture, photography, animation and design. She tends to work on projects in an explorative manner, as trial and error is a vital part of her creative process.

Solo exhibitions of her work have taken place at NSCAD’s Anna Leonowens Galery (Halifax), the Khyber Centre for the Arts (Halifax), Galerie Sans Nom Co-op Ltée (Moncton) and the Maison de la Culture Rosemont/Petite-Patrie (Montreal). Group exhibitions include New Media / No Memory at the Centre for Art Tapes (Halifax), Re-make, Re-Model at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Amour/Horreur Part II at La Centrale (Montreal) and Reflets V at the Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay (Montreal).

Her video work was broadcast on the Women’s Television Network and screened at Images Festival of Independent Film & Video (Toronto), Herland Film Festival (Calgary), eyelevel Gallery (Halifax) and Wormwoods Cinema (Halifax). Her Web work has been included in the 13º Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival (São Paulo, Brasil), the Festival International Nouveau Cinéma Nouveaux Médias, (Montreal) and Studio XX’s Maid in Cyberspace Festival (Montreal).
