The Japanese artist duo Mai Yamashita (b 1976) and Naoto Kobayashi (b 1974) is working in the field of video art.
Both of them studied at MFA Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Since they came to Germany in 2004, they live and work in Europe. Their works have been shown at KIASMA, Tate Modern, MARCO Vigo, Aichi Triennale, Yokohama Triennale 2011, etc.

Mai Yamashita + Naoto Kobayashi / A Dog And Wooden Sculptures

The Japanese artist duo Mai Yamashita + Naoto Kobayashi creates video installations based on methodologies of conceptual art.
At ASIFAKEIL ( in MuseumsQuartier ( they will present their new project A Dog And Wooden Sculptures, which is a collaboration work with their dog, produced during their MQ residency.
In the project, they curve primitive wooden sculptures by hand and gave them to their dog. Destroyed, deconstructed or improved figures will be installed together with the video of the dog playing with them.

On March 27th Mai Yamashita + Naoto Kobayashi will personally present a choice of their projects in Raum D / quartier21 in the MQ.
In March and April 2014 they stay and work as arists in residence in the Museumsquartier Vienna, based on an invitation by ASIFA AUSTRIA.

Dear Berliner,

We are a Japanese artist duo, Mai Yamashita+Naoto Kobayashi.

We are planning to carry out an event-like performance in Berlin on 1st Feb.
The title is "Pierced People".
We are looking for participants who have pierced holes.
If you have interests and have pierced holes, please come to Galerie ZERO (Kopenicker Strasse 4, 10997 Berlin) on 1 Feb at 1:30pm.
(Maybe it will take about one hour.)
