On the making of art:

I have always felt that the creative process was one of those life-long achievements, like learning to play golf. As an artist, you take on Rembrandt, Michelangelo and all of art history as your teachers, your mentors. You ask yourself, “Why this path?” That is the real question. The pay is terrible… long hours.... But there is a joy that occurs when everything lines up just right. When all the factors come together and you can look at your creative efforts and truthfully say to yourself, “I did that right,” - whatever it is - a painting, a sculpture, a poem, a dance - that is what gives me purpose and assurance that I am contributing.

I am a 43 year-old artist. I have been painting, drawing and sculpting since I was five. I have a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and I have studied extensively through private apprenticeships. I am also a father with two 17 year-old boys.
